Tl dr: too slow, too much of a hassle to install and activate, too difficult for most clients Thanks for reaching out here, Reddit seems like the easiest place to get real life feedback. I would be more apt to recommend Trend Micro if it was easier to install, faster, and more user friendly. It doesn't use the system-native on screen display for notifications which is obnoxious, and updating it is a hassle on a Mac.

Webroot will let you switch editions using the same installed copy, and automatically enables/disables features on the fly.Īlso, Trend Micro for Mac flat out sucks! It's a 32 bit application so it warns that "This application is not optimized for your computer." and it also takes forever to install.

Installing Trend Micro also sucks on a Windows PC because if you don't get the exact right edition, it flat out won't activate.
While Trend Micro is a pretty secure antivirus, it's not a painless experience while Webroot is. Webroot fits the bill for that, and Trend Micro does not.

Our clients generally want a hassle free antivirus that they can install and not worry about unless there's a problem. The folder shield is a nice feature, but the average Geek Squad client will only accidentally lock themselves out of their own files. Trend Micro takes far too long to install, and it feels slower than Webroot. There is a reason for that, TM is more secure. NASA, Mazda, Sharp and even Best Buy use trend micro for their AV when they could use Webroot. We won best internet security is 2018 and Asus and Linksys have us built in to their routers. Trend Micro is good for all sorts of reason but most importantly when compared to Webroot we are more effective when it comes to finding and neutralizing security threats. Otherwise Webroot seems to be the way to go. The only work around I can think of is having the installer for TM on a flash drive that doesn't have to be downloaded every time you do an install. We are in the business of making our customers happy so that we don't have returns or clog up the geek squad queue anymore than it already is. It sounds like in your situation that I wouldn't recommend Trend because it unnecessarily extends your work time but also potentially make for a worse experience in your customers legacy devices. TL DR: Why do you guys choose Webroot over Trend Micro? The more I know the better I can do my job. I look forward to working with many of you soon. That was only possible because they were open and honest with me about their opinions on which AV they liked more and how they offer (or don't offer) TM vs WR when selling TTS. Together we brought TM market share up from ~14% to 49%. I worked the Los Angeles market for a little over a year before I took over these new markets a month ago and I made some really great connections with the people I worked with. But I'm expected to be hitting Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Salt Lake City and Sacramento over the next year so if we haven't met yet, we might soon.

Here is just some extra more information about me that you may find interesting read if you are interested. My company given goal is to increase TM market share to 50% (or more) and the only way I can do that is by learning what's keeping you from attaching or offering it to your customers. In most markets Webroot seems to have about 90% combined market share of TTS and S2 (the AV Cards computing sells). After all, the things you all post about are often hilarious and relevant to my day to day too.
So please don't be scared to message me here and I'll be hanging out around the comments section to chime in whether it's TM related or not. I know you've all had way more consistent support from Webroot over the years and while this is no substitute for in person support, I want to offer my support here anyway I can.
